For the Eclipse downloads do I just download he "Eclipse IDE for java EE for Devolopers" and then the "Java platform JDK 7"?

Haha! It's working this time.

I'll have an update after I finish the tutorial.

Ring if you need help, and good luck. I guess I'll try asking /g/ and see if there are more experienced people interested in getting involved... But actually, thinking about that I don't want someone beyond us dominating the project. What do you think?

"javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"

I followed the instructions on how to fix this
If you receive this error, Windows cannot find the compiler (javac).

Here's one way to tell Windows where to find javac. Suppose you installed the JDK in C:\jdk6. At the prompt you would type the following command and press Enter: C:\jdk6\bin\javac HelloWorldApp.java If you choose this option, you'll have to precede your javac and java commands with C:\jdk6\bin\ each time you compile or run a program. To avoid this extra typing, consult the section in the JDK 6 installation instructions.

But I do that and I get a different warning stating
javac:File not found: HelloWorldApp.java
Usage:javac <options> <source files>
use-help for list of possible options

Nothing in -help actually helped so I guess I'm stuck

Now it's implied that there's a way to circumvent most of this bullshit aka "Extra Typing" by means of clever file placement.Where should I be putting my java files I'm working on to avoid hassle?

Read through it, it makes sense. Can't recreate the issue using linux. I don't know mange. Did you save it to your java folder? Also did you save it as "HelloWorld.java"?

Otherwise you just make that java class, change your directory to java and run it.

I think I'm going to give up on java.I mentioned before that I'm not exactly the most tech savvy person out there.It just seems far to esoteric and I feel that I should start with something simpler.

Even if I went hardcore on this, I sincerely doubt that I would develop anything more than a superficial familiarity for it after a prolonged period of time.

I'll still stay on the server and help test bugs, but other than that, I'm out.

SImpler than java, a very condensed programming language, but why.

I may not be very good at it but if you need to we can go step by step with it.

Like I said before; I only use my computer for gaming, that's it.

I went through the eclipse tutorial and I still had no idea what was going on.It felt as if I was just going through motions with no inherent understanding of the mechanics behind it.

I think I could learn it, but it's a matter of patience and dedication.Some things which I do not possess.

Bro, I know how you feel. I'm impatient too, I've been skipping around this java stuff for the past week. I've been mostly guessing at stuff and prodding and things until they work. And that's what programming is.

The whole idea is not understanding it right away, it's understanding the big picture the main goal and looking at what functions you have to insert into the program to get there.

So I'll take the hello world application.

Code:
class HelloWorldApp {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("Hello World!"); // Display the string.
    }
}

So top line is stating that this is a class and the class is called HelloWorldApp,

the bracket opens up the first direction which is public static void main(string[] args)
the public static yada-yada I don't get entirely right now so I've just been going it belongs there I'll ignore it. Still currently reading into it.

and with that another bracket

and

System.out.println("Hello World!");

system I guess would be the computer or the java virtual machine or something
and you are outputting the direction to print a line on the machine which is "Hello World!" And the semicolon ends this direction.

And then the two closing brackets.

Now I may not be right and it's alright to correct me because I like learning also! :3
